PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR

Assist. Prof. Gunes KIBAR
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR

Dr. Gunes Kibar is a faculty member in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Adana Science and Technology (ATU) in Adana, Turkey. Before her position at ATU, she was a teaching and research assistant at Hacettepe University (2009-2016). Dr. Kibar also worked as an Erasmus Scholar in biotechnology under the supervision of Dr. Ulrich Schwaneberg at RWTH Aachen University (2010-2011). She earned her B.Sc. degree in chemical engineering, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in bioengineering from Hacettepe University. Prior to her postdoctoral studies, she completed an MBA program and worked as a management trainee at Halk Energy (2016-2017). Then she joined the position of a research fellow at Bilkent University Microfluidics & Lab-on-a-chip Research Group (MLRG), where she worked under the mentorship of Dr. Barbaros Çetin, specializing in the microfluidic application (2017-2019). During her Fulbright postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Kibar worked with Dr. Berk Usta on the synthesis and cell culture application of lipid nanoparticles (2019-2022). With the Binbir talent contract she signed with Bilkent University-UNAM, one of the most advanced material characterization centers in Türkiye, she has been granted the right to carry out her projects in UNAM (2022-2025).

She is currently working on fluorescent micro/nanoparticles synthesis, drug discovery-toxicity testing kits for point-of-care and targeted delivery, antimicrobial materials, and microfluidic water treatments. Her research interests focused on green synthesis techniques, hybrid particles, and 3D cell culture models. Her contributions appeared in peer-reviewed journal articles and patents. She collaborates with several universities and industrial partners around the world.
